Fuel Delivery System
OPERATIONFuel Delivery
The fuel pump supplies the fuel injector with fuel under high pressure through the fuel injection supply manifold. Fuel pressure is controlled by the fuel pressure regulator which also allows excess fuel to be returned to the fuel tank.
Fuel Distribution
Pressurized fuel supplied through a fuel injection supply manifold is pulsed through four fuel injectors.
The fuel injectors are mounted to the Intake Manifold Runner Control (IMRC) assembly.
Fuel amounts are metered by the period of time (pulse width) that the fuel injectors are energized by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
Fuel Control
The fuel pump logic is defined in the fuel system control strategy and is executed in Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
The fuel pump relay has a primary and a secondary circuit. The primary side is controlled by the PCM and the secondary side provides battery positive (B+) to the fuel pump circuit when the relay is energized.
CONSTRUCTION
The fuel system consists of a fuel tank, fuel pump module, fuel supply lines, fuel filters, pressure test point, fuel rail, fuel injectors and fuel pressure regulator.
