ISSUE:
The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) may illuminate and Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) 0401 may be stored in memory. This may be caused by the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) vacuum source coming off of the EGR valve during engine mobility, resulting in the MIL illumination. The EGR hose routing may not be optimal.

ACTION:
Replace and reroute the EGR vacuum hose. Rerouting the hose will keep it away from the emission Differential Pressure Feedback EGR (DPFE) bracket which should reduce the possibility of the hose being disconnected from the valve. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Verify the MIL illumination and DTC 0401 stored in memory.

2. Inspect the EGR vacuum source tube connection to EGR valve to verify the tube has pulled off from the EGR valve.








3. Install a new Tube (F7CZ-9E498-DB) and route the tube as shown in Figure 2. Incorrect routing is illustrated in Figure 1.

4. Clear the DTC.
