NOISE - "BUZZING" NOISE HEARD FROM
INSTRUMENT PANEL AREA FOR 3 SECONDS AFTER
IGNITION SWITCH IS TURNED OFF AND/OR AT
ENGINE IDLE SPEED ON DECELERATION WHILE
DRIVING - VEHICLES WITH 2.0L ENGINE
FORD:
1997 ESCORT
LINCOLN-MERCURY:
1997 TRACER
ISSUE:
A high frequency "buzzing" noise may be heard coming from the instrument panel area for about 3 seconds after the ignition switch is turned to the OFF position. This noise may also be heard at engine idle speed during deceleration while driving. This may be caused by the force of the EGR check valve spring not being fully overcome by vacuum, resulting in the valve not being fully seated.
ACTION:
Replace the EGR vacuum harness with a revised vacuum harness which has a revised vacuum check valve containing a lower spring tension rate. The revised vacuum harness should reduce the possibility of noise by allowing vacuum to hold the check valve against its seat. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Remove the EGR Vacuum Harness.
2. Install a revised EGR Vacuum Harness (F7CZ-9E498-DB).
