Compressor Clutch: Service and Repair
Special Tools
REMOVAL
1. Remove the A/C compressor.
2. Install (A) Compressor Clutch Holding Tool T94P-19703-AH and remove the (B) A/C clutch bolt.
3. Pull the A/C clutch and spacers from the compressor shaft.
4. Remove the pulley snap ring.
5. Remove the A/C clutch pulley and the A/C compressor pulley bearing.
6. Remove the A/C clutch field coil.
a. Position Shaft Protector For Coil Removal T89P-19623-FH on the nose opening of the compressor.
b. Use (A) Differential Side Bearing Puller T77F-4220-B1 to remove the (B) field coil.
CAUTION: Do not use air tools.
INSTALLATION
1. Clean the A/C field coil mounting surface head.
2. Use (A) Field Coil Replacer T91L-19623-CH, (B) Coil Pressing Tool T89P-19623-EH and (C) 2-Jaw Puller D80L-1002-L or equivalent to install the (D) A/C clutch field coil.
NOTE: Check that the A/C clutch field coil outer diameter bottoms completely against the A/C compressor head. Ensure that the field coil electrical connector is correctly positioned.
3. Install the A/C compressor pulley bearing and the A/C clutch pulley.
4. Install the pulley snap ring with the bevel side out.
5. Place one nominal thickness spacer inside the hub spline opening.
6. Slide the A/C clutch onto the compressor shaft.
7. Install (A) Compressor Clutch Holding Tool T94P-19703-AH and install a new (B) A/C clutch bolt and inspect the air gap.
8. Install the A/C compressor.
