Water Pump: Service and Repair
REMOVALCAUTION:
Aluminum Components
Do not work on aluminum engine components until the engine is cold.
1. Drain the cooling system.
2. Remove the timing belt. Refer to Engine.
3. Remove the timing belt tensioner bolt and remove the timing belt tensioner.
4. Remove the lower radiator hose (8286) from the water pump (8501).
5. Lower the vehicle.
6. Disconnect the heater hose from the water pump.
7. Remove the (A) three bolts and (B) one stud and remove the (C) water pump.
INSTALLATION
CAUTION:
Cleaning Aluminum Surfaces
Do not use abrasive grinding discs to remove gasket material; use only plastic manual scrapers. Do not scratch or gouge aluminum sealing surfaces.
1. Clean all gasket material from the mating surfaces on the cylinder block and water pump.
2. Install a new gasket and install the water pump. Tighten the mounting bolts and nut to 20-30 Nm (15-22 ft. lbs.).
3. Connect the heater hose to the water pump.
4. Raise and support the vehicle.
5. Install the lower radiator hose on the water pump.
6. Install the timing belt tensioner and tighten the bolt to 20-30 Nm (15-22 ft. lbs.).
7. Install the timing belt.
8. Lower the vehicle.
9. Refill the cooling system with coolant.
