Valve Seat: Testing and Inspection
CAUTION: After grinding valves or valve seats, check valve clearance.NOTE: The finished valve seat should contact the approximate center of the valve face.
ANGLE INSPECTION
Intake Valve Seat:
Exhaust Valve Seat:
Check intake and exhaust valve seat and intake valve angles. If necessary, grind the valve seat to specification.
WIDTH
Measure the valve seat width. If necessary, grind the valve seat to specification.
Width: 1.75-2.32 mm (0.690-0.091 inch).
VALVE-TO SEAT CONTACT
Check that the valve seat contacts the approximate center of the valve face.
1. Coat the valve seat with Prussian Blue.
2. Set the valve in place.
3. Rotate the valve with light pressure.
4. Inspect the Prussian Blue transferred to the valve and grind the valve or valve seat as necessary.
RUNOUT
Use a valve seat runout gauge or equivalent to check valve seat runout. If necessary, grind the valve seat to specification.
Runout, Maximum: 0.064 mm (0.0025 inch).
