Valve Train Analysis - Static

NOTE: Static checks (engine OFF) are to be made on the engine prior to the Dynamic Analysis.

1. Remove the valve cover.
2. Check for damaged and/or severely worn parts and proper assembly. Make sure correct parts are used with the static valve train analysis.
3. Inspect and replace the following components as necessary.
4. Proceed to Dynamic Test after all components have been inspected.

ROCKER ARM
Inspect the rocker arms (6564) for nicks, scratches, scoring or scuffs. Replace any damaged parts.

VALVE TAPPETS
Inspect the valve tappets (6500) for:
^ Excessive tappet gap.
^ Sticking tappet plunger
^ Replace valve tappets as necessary.

CAMSHAFT
Inspect the camshaft (6250) for:
^ Scoring, scratches and excess wear on the camshaft lobes.
^ Replace the camshaft if necessary.

VALVE SPRINGS
^ Check for broken or damaged valve springs (6513).
^ Check valve spring strength.
^ Replace as necessary.

VALVE SPRING RETAINER AND VALVE SPRING RETAINER KEYS
Check for proper seating of valve spring retainer keys (6518) on the valve stem and in the valve spring retainer (6514).

VALVES AND CYLINDER HEAD
^ Check for plugged oil drain back holes.
^ Check for worn or damaged valve tips.
^ Check for missing or damaged valve stem seals (6571).
^ Check for excessive valve tappet gap.
^ Check installed valve spring height.
