Connecting Rod: Service Precautions

Keep the connecting rods and caps with matching numbers together. Observe all marks and numbers to ensure the correct caps, connecting rods and pistons are kept together. Mark the connecting rod caps, connecting rods and pistons if no marks are found.

Use the proper tools to disassemble and assemble the piston, piston pin, and connecting rod. Extensive damage can result if the wrong tools are used. The piston pins are interference press fit in the connecting rod.

Use care not to scratch the pistons.
