Removal & Installation

REMOVAL
1. Remove the spark plugs. Refer to Powertrain Management.
2. Remove the oil pan.
3. Remove the two bolts and remove the oil pump screen cover and tube and gasket. Discard the gasket.
4. Remove the four nuts and remove the oil pan baffle.
5. Turn the crankshaft until the connecting rod from which the connecting rod bearings are to be removed is at its lowest point of travel.

6. Remove the (A) two nuts, the (B) connecting rod cap and the lower connecting rod bearing.

7. Install a short length of rubber tubing over the connecting rod bolts to avoid damage to the crankshaft journals.
8. Remove the upper connecting rod bearing. Push the piston up into the cylinder bore slightly to provide clearance for bearing removal.

INSTALLATION

CAUTION: Contaminants allowed to remain on the connecting rod cap or connecting rod bearing can distort the connecting rod bearing or damage the crankshaft journals.

NOTE:
The connecting rod bearings (6211) are selective fit to provide the necessary clearance. Refer to Fitting and measure the clearance and select the proper connecting rod bearing.

Lightly oil all bolt and stud threads before installation.

1. Thoroughly clean the connecting rod bearings, the connecting rod cap, and the connecting rod.
2. Clean the crankshaft journal and lubricate it with Oil Conditioner D9AZ-19579-D or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESR-M99C80-A heavy engine oil.

NOTE: When installing the (A) connecting rod bearing, ensure the (B) tab on the bearing engages the (C) slot in the connecting rod and that the bearing is fully seated.

3. Install the upper connecting rod bearing in the connecting rod and pull down until it seats on the crankshaft.

4. Install the (A) lower connecting rod bearing in the (B) connecting rod cap.
5. Lubricate the bearing surface with Engine Assembly Lubricant D9AZ-19579-D or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESR-M99C80-A.

6. Fit the connecting rod cap with a bearing.
7. Tighten the connecting rod nuts to 35-41 Nm (26-30 ft. lbs.). Back off the nuts two or three turns and retighten to 35-41 Nm (26-30 ft. lbs.).
8. Install the oil pan baffle and tighten bolts to 20-30 Nm (15-22 ft. lbs.).
9. Install the oil pump screen cover and tube and new gasket. Tighten to 8-11.5 Nm (71-102 inch lbs.).
10. Install the oil pan.
11. Install the spark plugs.
