Lifter / Lash Adjuster: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

CAUTION: If removing more than one vale tappet, mark the components removed for proper location.

1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to Starting and Charging.
2. Remove the valve cover.
3. Remove the rocker arm bolts, the seats, and the rocker arms (6564).
4. Remove the valve tappet guide plate retainer(s).
5. Remove the valve tappet guide plate(s).
6. Remove the valve tappet(s).
7. Inspect the components.

INSTALLATION

NOTE:

Lubricate the valve tappet (6500)(s) with engine oil before installing.

Position Of Components
^ Always return the valve tappets to their original bores unless they are being replaced.

^ Be certain the (A) valve tappet guide plate retainer tabs are toward the rear of the cylinder head, and the (B) valve tappet guide plate tabs are toward the front of the cylinder head.

To install, reverse the removal procedure.
^ Tighten rocker arm bolts to 23-30 Nm (17-22 ft. lbs.).
