Tie Rod Boot: Testing and Inspection
DESCRIPTIONEntry of water or dust into the tie rod bellows will seriously affect the operation and durability of the power rack and pinion steering gear, including the front wheel spindle tie rods.
CAUTION: Tie rod bellows must be handled carefully to avoid damage. Use new steering gear boot clamps when installing tie rod bellows.
PROCEDURE
1. Inspect tie rod bellows for cracks, cuts, deterioration, twisting, or distortion.
2. Check steering gear boot clamps to make sure they are tight.
3. Replace tie rod bellows or steering gear boot clamps as required.
