S: Electronic Transmission Range Indicator Inoperative

S1 Check Electronic Transmission Range Indicator Operation
- Set parking brake.
- Turn ignition switch to RUN.
- Shift transmission through each range.

Are all position displays inoperative?

Yes
GO to S5.
No
GO to S2.

S2 Check Feed To Electronic Indicator
- Disconnect instrument cluster connector C252
- Turn ignition switch to RUN (engine OFF).
- Shift to inoperative transmission range.
- Using a voltmeter connected to ground, check for voltage at the suspect pin of the instrument cluster connector C252 according to the following chart:

Is voltage 10 volts or more?

Yes
REPLACE electronic transmission range indicator. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
No
GO to S3.

S3 Check Circuit For Open
- Turn ignition switch OFF.
- Disconnect transmission range (TR) sensor connector C107
- Using an ohmmeter, check the suspect circuit for open between TR sensor and instrument cluster connector C252 using the following chart:

Is the resistance 3 ohms or less?

Yes
GO to S4.
No
SERVICE suspect circuit for open. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.

S4 Check For Short To Ground
- Using an ohmmeter connected to ground, measure resistance of suspect circuit at instrument cluster connector C252 according to chart in step S2.

Is resistance 10,000 ohms or less?

Yes
SERVICE suspect circuit for short to ground. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
No
REPLACE transmission range (TR) sensor. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.

S5 Check Feed To Transmission Range (TR) Sensor
- Turn ignition switch OFF.
- Disconnect TR sensor connector C107.
- Turn ignition switch to RUN.
- Using a voltmeter connected to ground, measure TR sensor connector Pin C107, Circuit 1087 (O) for voltage.

Is voltage 10 volts or more?

Yes
GO to S58.
No
GO to S6.

S6 Check Fuse 6 (15A) Output
- Turn ignition switch to RUN.
- Using a voltmeter connected to ground, check output side of Fuse 6 (15A) for voltage.

Is voltage 10 volts or more?

Yes
SERVICE Circuit 1087(O) for open. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
No
GO to S7.

S7 Check Input To Fuse 6 (15A)
- Turn ignition switch to RUN.
- Using a voltmeter connected to ground, check input side of Fuse 6 (15A) for voltage.

Is voltage 10 volts or more?

Yes
SERVICE Circuit 1087 (O) for short to ground. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
No
SERVICE Circuit 1040 (R/LB) for open. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.

S8 Check Electronic Indicator Ground
- Turn ignition switch OFF.
- Disconnect instrument cluster connector C252
- Using an ohmmeter connected to ground, measure resistance of Pin C252, Circuit 57 (BK).

Is resistance 5 ohms or less?

Yes
REPLACE electronic transmission range indicator. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
No
SERVICE Circuit 57 (BK) for open. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
