F6 - F10
F6 Check Run Circuit 1003 (GY/Y) For 12V
- Using a voltmeter, measure voltage of Circuit 1003 (GY/Y).
- Disconnect C251.
- Turn key to RUN position.
- Connect lead to a known good ground, connect second lead to Circuit 1003 (GY/Y).
Is voltage greater than 10.5 volts?
Yes
GO to F7. Replace C251.
No
CHECK fuse and/or SERVICE Circuit 1003 (GY/Y). RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
F7 Check Circuit 398 (BK/Y) Ground
- Connect ohmmeter to instrument cluster connector Pin C251, Circuit 398 (BK/Y).
- Measure resistance to known good ground.
Is resistance 5 ohms or less?
Yes
GO to F8.
No
SERVICE Circuit 398 (BK/Y) for open circuit. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
F8 Check Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) Circuit
- Remove instrument cluster as described enough to access connectors.
- Disconnect instrument cluster connectors C250 and C251
- Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between Pin C251 , Circuit 679 (GY/BK) and Pin C251 Circuit 395 (BK/Y).
Is resistance between 200 and 300 ohms?
Yes
DISCONNECT VSS connector C1043. GO to F10.
No
GO to F9.
F9 Check Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS)
- Disconnect VSS connector C1043.
- Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance across the terminals of the VSS.
Is resistance between 200 and 300 ohms?
Yes
GO to F10.
No
REPLACE vehicle speed sensor (VSS). RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
F10 Check Circuit 679 (GY/BK) For Short To Ground
- Using an ohmmeter connected to a known good ground, connect second lead to connector Pin C251-16, Circuit 679 (GY/BK).
- Measure the resistance.
Is resistance 10,000 ohms or less?
Yes
SERVICE Circuit 679 (GY/BK) for short to ground. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
No
LEAVE ohmmeter connected to Circuit 679 (GY/BK). GO to F11
