Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures

PRE-CHECKS
- Verify the customer's original concern by operating the parking brake system to duplicate the condition.
- Inspect to determine if one of the following mechanical or electrical concerns apply:

^ Check the parking brake rear cable and conduit (2A635) for damage and proper routing. If the parking brake rear cable and conduit is damaged, it must be replaced.
^ Operate the parking brake control and check for; conditions that may cause binding; groaning; or an incomplete release of the parking brake.
^ Make sure the parking brake components are in good condition and all the cables and the cable housing clamps are lubricated and in good condition.
^ Check the front parking brake cable adjustment.
^ Test operation of brake warning indicator.

SYMPTOM CHART

PARKING BRAKE WILL NOT APPLY

Possible Causes
- Damaged parking brake control.
- Binding/damaged parking brake cable.
- Frozen rear brake hardware.

Action - Go to pinpoint test A. Pinpoint Tests

PARKING BRAKE WILL NOT RELEASE

Possible Causes
- Damaged parking brake control.
- Binding/damaged parking brake cable.
- Frozen/binding rear brake hardware.

Action - Go to pinpoint test B. Pinpoint Tests

BRAKE WARNING LAMP STAYS "ON"

Possible Causes
- Parking brake not releasing.
- Leak in hydraulic system.
- Damaged wiring.
- Bad Park Brake Switch.

Action - Go to Brakes - System Diagnosis. Component Tests and General Diagnostics
