Brake Caliper: Description and Operation

FRONT CALIPER
- The front disc brake caliper (2B121) has a steel caliper piston (2196) with a piston seal and a trapped-type dust boot.
- The front disc brake caliper is attached to the front disc brake caliper anchor plate (2B293) with two 8 mm brake pin retainers.
- The front disc brake caliper anchor plate (2B292) is attached to the front wheel knuckle (3K186) with two l2mm hex bolts.
- The front disc brake caliper housing that slides on lubricated disc brake caliper locating pins (2B296) that are sealed from the elements by rubber boots.

REAR CALIPER

The rear calipers (2552) are hydraulically activated, pin slider-type assemblies with integral mechanically (cable) operated parking brake mechanisms. The rear disc brake caliper Assembly consists of:
^ A pin slider caliper housing with a single rear disc brake piston and adjuster (2B588) and parking brake mechanism.
^ inner and outer rear brake shoes and linings (2200).
^ rear disc support bracket (2B511).
^ two lubricated disc brake caliper locating pins (2B296) that position the rear disc brake caliper relative to the rear disc support bracket.
^ rubber slider pin boot seals which prevent lubrication wash out and pin corrosion.
^ A single brake shoe hold-down spring (2068) is mounted on the top of the rear disc brake caliper (2552) applying spring tension on the rear brake shoe and lining (2200).
