Front
ROTOR REMOVAL1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Remove wheel and tire assembly. Be careful to avoid damage or interference with caliper bleeder screw fitting.
CAUTION: Handle front disc brake rotor and disc brake caliper assembly in such a way as to prevent deformation of front disc brake rotor, and nicking, scratching or contamination of brake linings/rotor surfaces.
NOTE: To prevent damage, do not allow disk brake caliper to hang by the front brake hose.
3. Mark rotor and one wheel stud with touch-up paint, if rotor is to be reinstalled.
4. Remove caliper anchor plate bolts and discard.
5. Position disc brake caliper out of the way. Prevent separation of caliper housing from anchor bracket because contamination of guide pin journals can occur.
NOTE: If excessive force must be used during front disc brake rotor removal, the front disc brake rotor should be checked for runout prior to installation. If additional force is required to remove disc brake rotor, apply Rust Penetrant and Inhibitor F2AZ-19A501-A or equivalent on rotor/hub mating surfaces. First, strike front disc brake rotor between lug bolts with a plastic hammer. If this does not work, attach 2-3 Jaw Puller D80L-1013-A or equivalent and remove front disc brake rotor. Remove front disc brake rotor from wheel hub assembly by pulling it off the lug bolts.
ROTOR SHIELD REMOVAL
- Punch out the mandrel located in the center of the rivets retaining front disc brake rotor shield to front wheel knuckle.
- With a chisel, cut off rivet head at front wheel knuckle.
- Punch out rivet remaining in hole.
- Remove front disc brake rotor shield by pulling it outward.
ROTOR SHIELD INSTALLATION
- Locate front disc brake rotor shield on front wheel knuckle mounting bosses so holes in front wheel knuckle bosses are aligned with mounting holes in front disc brake rotor shield.
- Install new rivets using Heavy-Duty Riveter D80L-23200-A or equivalent (three per front disc brake rotor shield) through mounting holes in front disc brake rotor shield and front wheel knuckle. The rivet body head should clamp front disc brake rotor shield retainers securely to front wheel knuckle bosses.
- Install front disc brake rotor and disc brake caliper using new bolts.
- Make certain front disc brake rotor shield does not contact front disc brake rotor.
ROTOR INSTALLATION
1. Make sure rotor braking and mounting surfaces are clean if original front disc brake rotor is being installed.
CAUTION: Failure to clean rust and foreign material from rotor and hub mounting faces when installing new or old disc brake rotors will result in high rotor runout, which will speed up the development of brake roughness shudder vibration.
2. Apply a small amount of Silicone Brake Caliper Grease and Dielectric Compound D7AZ-19A331-A or equivalent to pilot diameter of front disc brake rotor.
3. Install front disc brake rotor on wheel hub assembly.
NOTE: If original rotor is being installed, be sure to re-index marked rotor.
4. Install disc brake caliper and new caliper anchor bracket bolts on front disc brake rotor. Tighten caliper anchor bracket bolts to 88-118 Nm (65-87 ft. lbs.).
CAUTION: Failure to tighten lug nuts in a star pattern may result in high rotor runout, which will speed up the development of brake roughness, shudder and vibration.
5. Install wheel and tire assembly on vehicle. Tighten lug nuts to 115-142 Nm (85-104 ft. lbs.) using Accutorq Lug Nut Socket or equivalent on a 1/2 inch air impact wrench or use a torque wrench.
6. Rotate wheel and visually inspect rotor shield for contact with rotor.
7. Lower vehicle.
8. Pump brake pedal prior to moving vehicle to position brake linings.
9. Road test vehicle.
