H

NOTE: This procedure diagnosis a POOR VEHICLE TRACKING CURING ANTI-LOCK FUNCTION (WARNING INDICATOR "OFF").

CAUTION: When directed to use scan tool to command functions "ON", be sure to command them "OFF" at the completion of each step to prevent damage to anti-lock brake Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) and other components.


H1- BLEED BRAKE SYSTEM
- Check tire pressure, wear and vehicle alignment. Correct as necessary.
- Bleed brake system. Service and Repair
- Test drive vehicle.
- Does vehicle track properly during ABS operation?
YES - Concern corrected.
NO - Go to H2.

H2- CHECK ABS PUMP MOTOR OPERATION
- Connect scan tool to DCL (C229).
- Turn ignition switch to "RUN".

CAUTION: Return ABS pump motor to "OFF" after completeing next step.

- Use scan tool in the active command mode, command PMP MOTOR to "ON".
- Does ABS pump motor run?
YES - Go to H3.
NO - Retest vehicle for DTC C1095. C1095

H3- CHECK LH FRONT ABS INLET VALVE FUNCTION
- Raise and support vehicle. Wheels should be free to rotate.
- Turn ignition switch to "RUN".
- Apply moderate break pressure while tuning LH front Wheel.
- Will Wheel turn?
YES - Replace anti-lock brake Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU).
NO - Go to H4.

H4- CHECK LH FRONT ABS INLET VALVE FUNCTION

NOTE: LH front ABS inlet valve must be activated before applying brake pressure.

CAUTION: After completeing the next steps, return LH front ABS valve to "OFF".

- Use scan tool in the active command mode to command LH front ABS inlet Valve to "ON".
- Apply moderate brake pressure while rotating LH front wheel.
- Will Wheel turn?
YES - Go to H5.
NO - Replace anti-lock brake Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU).

H5- CHECK LH FRONT ABS OUTLET VALVE FUNCTION
- Apply moderate brake pressure.
- Use scan tool in the active command mode to command the following "ON":
- LH front inlet valve "ON".
- LH front outlet valve "ON".
- Pump motor relay "ON".
- Feel For the brake pedal to rise.
- Use scan tool command the following "OFF":
- LH front inlet valve "OFF".
- LH front outlet valve "OFF".
- Pump motor relay "OFF".
- Did brake pedal raise?
YES - Go to H6.
NO - Replace anti-lock brake Hydraulic Control Unit.

H6- CHECK RH FRONT ABS VALVE FUNCTION
- Turn ignition switch to "RUN".
- Apply moderate brake pressure while turning RH front wheel.
- Will Wheel turn?
YES - Replace anti-lock brake Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU).
NO - Go to H7.

H7- CHECK RH FRONT ABS INLET VALVE FUNCTION

NOTE: RH front ABS inlet valve must be activated before applying brake pressure.

CAUTION: After completeing the next steps, return RH front ABS valve to "OFF".

- Use scan tool in the active command mode to command RH front ABS inlet valve to "ON".
- Apply moderate brake pressure while rotating RH front wheel.
- Will Wheel turn?
YES - Go to H8.
NO - Replace anti-lock brake Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU).

H8- CHECK RH FRONT ABS OUTLET VALVE
- Apply moderate brake pressure.
- Use scan tool in the active command mode to command the following "ON":
- RH front inlet valve "ON".
- RH front outlet valve "ON".
- Pump motor relay "ON".
- Feel For the brake pedal to rise.
- Use scan tool command the following "OFF":
- RH front inlet valve "OFF".
- RH front outlet valve "OFF".
- Pump motor relay "OFF".
- Did brake pedal raise?
YES - Go to H9.
NO - Replace anti-lock brake Hydraulic Control Unit (ABS HCU).

H9- CHECK LH REAR ABS VALVE FUNCTION
- Turn ignition switch to "RUN".
- Apply moderate brake pressure while tuning LH rear wheel.
- Will wheel turn?
YES - Replace anti-lock brake Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU).
NO - Go to H10.

H10- CHECK LH REAR ABS INLET VALVE FUNCTION

NOTE: LH rear ABS inlet valve must be activated before applying brake pressure.

CAUTION: After completeing the next steps, return LH rear ABS valve to "OFF".

- Use scan tool in the active command mode to command LH rear ABS inlet valve to "ON".
- Apply moderate brake pressure while rotating LH rear wheel.
- Will Wheel turn?
YES - Go to H11.
NO - Replace anti-lock brake Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU).

H11- CHECK LH REAR ABS OUTLET VALVE
- Apply moderate brake pressure.
- Use scan tool in the active command mode to command the following "ON":
- LH Rear inlet valve "ON".
- LH Rear outlet valve "ON".
- Pump motor relay "ON".
- Feel For the brake pedal to rise.
- Use scan tool command the following "OFF":
- LH Rear inlet valve "OFF".
- LH Rear outlet valve "OFF".
- Pump motor relay "OFF".
- Did brake pedal raise?
YES - Go to H12.
NO - Replace anti-lock brake Hydraulic Control Unit (ABS HCU).

H12- CHECK RH REAR ABS VALVE FUNCTION
- Turn ignition switch to "RUN".
- Apply moderate brake pressure while tuning RH rear wheel.
- Will wheel turn?
YES - Replace anti-lock brake Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU).
NO - Go to H13.

H13- CHECK RH REAR ABS INLET VALVE FUNCTION

NOTE: RH rear ABS inlet valve must be activated before applying brake pressure.

CAUTION: After completeing the next steps, return RH rear ABS valve to "OFF".

- Use scan tool in the active command mode to command RH rear ABS inlet valve to "ON".
- Apply moderate brake pressure while rotating RH rear wheel.
- Will Wheel turn?
YES - Go to H14.
NO - Replace anti-lock brake Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU).

H14- CHECK RH REAR ABS OUTLET VALVE
- Apply moderate brake pressure.
- Use scan tool in the active command mode to command the following "ON":
- RH Rear inlet valve "ON".
- RH Rear outlet valve "ON".
- Pump motor relay "ON".
- Feel For the brake pedal to rise.
- Use scan tool command the following "OFF":
- RH Rear inlet valve "OFF".
- RH Rear outlet valve "OFF".
- Pump motor relay "OFF".
- Did brake pedal raise?
YES - Refer to SYMPTOM CHART. Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures
NO - Replace anti-lock brake Hydraulic Control Unit (ABS HCU).
