H: Tachometer Not Reflecting Correct Engine Speed
H1 Check Fuse
- Check fuse junction panel Fuse 12 (5A).
Is fuse OK?
Yes
GO to H2.
No
REPLACE Fuse 12 (5A). RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
H2 Check Wiring
- Check for loose wiring connections in engine compartment and at instrument cluster.
Are all connections OK?
Yes
GO to H3.
No
SECURE loose connections. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
H3 Check Resistance And Voltage
- Disconnect battery.
- Remove instrument cluster and make resistance and voltage checks at 14401 wire harness connector as follows:
- Check Pins C236 and measure resistance to a known good ground-should read 3 ohms or less.
- Check Pin C251 resistance to Pin C191 of powertrain control module harness connector should be 3 ohms or less.
- Connect battery. Turn ignition switch to RUN. Check for B+ at Pin C236. Turn ignition switch OFF.
Are all voltages and resistances within specification?
Yes
GO to H4.
No
Condition is not in tachometer. SERVICE Circuit 640 (R/Y) or Circuit 11 (T/Y) depending on failed reading. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
H4 Check Connector Clips
- Check for loose tachometer indicator terminals on rear of instrument cluster or damaged instrument cluster printed circuit.
Are connector clips OK?
Yes
REPLACE tachometer. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
No
REPLACE instrument cluster printed circuit and indicator terminals. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
