CAUTION:
Aluminum Components
Do not work on aluminum engine components until the engine is cold.
Cleaning Aluminum Surfaces
Do not use abrasive grinding discs to remove gasket material; use only plastic manual scrapers. Do not scratch or gouge aluminum sealing surfaces.
Removing Aluminum Components
When removing engine components, always remove retaining bolts in reverse of tightening sequence or damage to engine components may occur.
REMOVAL
1. Disconnect battery ground cable. Refer to Starting and Charging.
2. Remove upper intake manifold.
3. Remove ignition coil.
4. Remove EGR valve to exhaust manifold tube from the exhaust manifold.
5. Raise and support vehicle.
6. Remove dual converter Y pipe.
7. Remove lower exhaust manifold retaining nuts from cylinder head studs.
8. Lower vehicle.
9. Remove upper exhaust manifold retaining nuts from cylinder head studs.
10. Remove exhaust manifold and exhaust manifold gasket from engine.
INSTALLATION
NOTE: New exhaust manifold gasket must be used if exhaust manifold is removed.
1. Clean gasket material from mounting faces.
2. Follow removal procedure in reverse order.
3. Tighten exhaust manifold retaining nuts to 18-22 Nm (13-16 ft. lbs.) in sequence shown.
4. Tighten EGR valve to exhaust manifold tube nuts to 35-45 Nm (26-33 ft. lbs.).
