Ignition Switch: Description and Operation

DESCRIPTION
The ignition switch is cycled through rotation of the ignition switch lock cylinder through a pin which is part of the ignition switch. The ignition switch has four positions:
- LOCK
- ACC
- RUN
- START

OPERATION
With the ignition switch in the:
- LOCK position, all electrical functions controlled by the ignition switch are shut OFF.
- ACC position, all of the electrical accessories are functional.
- ON position, the ignition switch is switched ON and the instrument cluster warning indicator function check is operational.
- START position, the starter circuit is activated to start the engine.

Once the key is released from the START position, the ignition switch will spring back into the ON position, disengaging the starter circuit.
