Oxygen Sensor: Service and Repair

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.

NOTE: When battery voltage is removed from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM), all learned values will be cleared and reset to predetermined values. When battery voltage is restored to the PCM, the vehicle may exhibit certain driveability concerns. It will be necessary to drive the vehicle to allow the PCM to relearn values for optimum driveablilty and performance.

2. Disconnect engine control sensor wiring from Heated Oxygen (HO2S) sensors.
3. Raise vehicle on hoist.

NOTE: If excessive force is needed to remove a HO2S sensor, lubricate the HO2S sensor with penetrating oil prior to removal.

4. Remove HO2S sensors from exhaust manifolds, Y pipe or catalytic converter pipe using Oxygen Sensor Wrench T94P-9472-A.
5. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten HO2S sensors to 36-48 N.m (27-35 lb-ft).
