Removal and Installation

Removal And Installation

1. Observe fuel pressure release procedures, relieve fuel system pressure.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable.

Note: When battery voltage is removed from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM), all learned values will be cleared and reset to predetermined values. When battery voltage is restored to the PCM, the vehicle may exhibit certain driveability concerns. It will be necessary to drive the vehicle to allow the PCM to relearn values for optimum driveablity and performance.

3. Remove upper intake manifold.
4. Disconnect fuel supply and return tubes from fuel injection supply manifold.
5. Disconnect fuel charging wiring from fuel injectors and valve cover retaining studs. Position fuel charging wiring aside.
6. Disconnect vacuum supply tube from fuel pressure regulator and Intake Manifold Runner Control (IMRC) actuator cable from bracket and lever and position aside.
7. If required, remove fuel injection supply manifold and fuel injectors from IMRC.
8. If required, remove bolts and remove IMRC actuator cable bracket from lower intake manifold.

9. Remove lower intake manifold-to-cylinder head retaining bolts in sequence shown.

Lower Intake Manifold:

10. Remove IMRC from cylinder heads.
11. Remove intake manifold gaskets from cylinder heads and discard intake manifold gaskets.

12. To install, reverse removal procedure using new intake manifold gaskets. Tighten lower intake manifold retaining bolts to 8-12 Nm (71-106 In lbs) in sequence shown. If removed, tighten IMRC actuator bracket retaining bolts to 8-12 Nm (71-106 In Lbs). Connect fuel supply and return tubes.
13. Connect battery ground cable.
