Auxiliary Air Valve (Idle Speed): Service and Repair



Idle Air Control (IAC) Valve:






REMOVAL
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.

NOTE: When battery voltage is removed from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM), all learned values will be cleared and reset to predetermined values. When battery voltage is restored to the PCM, the vehicle may exhibit certain driveability concerns. It will be necessary to drive the vehicle to allow the PCM to relearn values for optimum driveablilty and performance.


2. Disconnect the engine control sensor wiring or fuel charging wiring from the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve at the IAC valve connector.
4. Remove retainer for engine control sensor wiring from the upper retaining stud bolt.
5. Remove the IAC valve retaining bolts or stud bolts.
6. Remove the IAC valve and IAC valve gasket.

INSTALLATION
1. Clean IAC valve gasket mating surfaces.

NOTE: If scraping is necessary, be careful not to damage IAC valve or intake manifold to IAC valve gasket surfaces or drop material into intake manifold.

2. To install the IAC valve, reverse removal procedure.
3. Tighten the retaining bolt and stud bolt to 8-12 N.m (71-106 lb-in).
