Removal & Installation
REMOVAL1. Drain the crankcase. Remove the oil level dipstick (6750). Remove the oil pan (6675).
2. Remove the oil pump screen cover and tube (6622) and the oil pan baffle (6687).
3. Turn the crankshaft (6303) until the connecting rod (6200) to which new connecting rod bearings are to be fitted is down. Remove the connecting rod cap.
4. Remove the connecting rod bearings from the connecting rod and cap.
5. Fit the connecting rod bearings (6211) if necessary.
INSTALLATION
CAUTION: Care should be taken not to damage the connecting rod and cap joint face surfaces or possible engine damage may occur.
1. Connecting rod bolts are retained in the bolt hole with a light press fit. The bolts have been torqued to yield at least twice and must be discarded. Using a hammer and punch, drive bolts from bolt holes.
2. Make sure connecting rod bearings and the bearing bore in the connecting rod and cap are clean. Foreign material under the connecting rod bearings will distort the connecting rod bearings and cause a failure.
3. Clean the crankshaft journal.
4. Install the connecting rod bearings in the connecting rod and cap with the tangs fitting in the slots provided.
5. Pull the connecting rod and connecting rod bearing down firmly on the crankshaft journal.
6. Fit the connecting rod bearing.
CAUTION:
^ It is imperative that the connecting rod cap be properly aligned to the connecting rod. The connecting rod and connecting rod cap bearing slots and tangs must be located on same side of connecting rod.
^ Connecting rod bolts must be replaced with new bolts. They are torque-to-yield designed and cannot be reused. Failure to replace connecting rod bolts may cause possible damage to engine.
7. After the connecting rod bearings have been fitted, clean and apply a light coat of Engine Assembly Lubricant D9AZ-19579-D or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESR-M99C80-A to the journal and connecting rod bearings and new connecting rod cap bolts. install the connecting rod cap and new connecting rod cap bolts. Tighten the new torque-to-yield connecting rod cap bolts alternately in several passes to 40 Nm (29 ft. lbs.). Rotate connecting rod bolts an additional 90-120°.
8. Clean the oil pan baffle and oil pump screen cover and tube and install oil pan baffle and oil pump screen cover and tube.
9. Position the oil pan gasket (6710) and install the oil pan. Install the oil level dipstick.
10. Replace oil bypass filter (6714).
11. Fill the crankcase to proper level with Super Premium Motor Oil XO-5W30-QSP or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESE-M2C153-E.
12. Start the engine and check oil pressure. Run engine and check for oil leaks.
