Flow of Diagnosis
INSPECTION AND VERIFICATION1. Verify the customer's concern by operating the parking brake system to duplicate the condition.
2. Inspect to determine if one of the following mechanical or electrical concerns apply:
MECHANICAL
^ Binding/damaged parking brake cables.
^ Damaged parking brake control. Operate the parking brake control and check for conditions that may cause binding, groaning or an incomplete release of the parking brake.
^ Verify that parking brake control stroke is five to seven notches when pulled with a force of 98 Nm (22 lb). If not adjust. Adjustments
ELECTRICAL - The parking brake warning indicator:
^ is turned "ON" by actuating the parking brake control.
^ warns the driver to release the parking brake control before driving the vehicle.
^ remains lit when a brake hydraulic malfunction has occurred.
^ will remain lit when a parking brake malfunction has occurred.
^ If there are no hydraulic brake failures, and no park brake failures, diagnose the parking brake warning circuit. Refer to Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators.
3. If inspection reveals obvious concern(s) that can be readily identified, service as required.
4. If the concern(s) remains after the inspection, determine the symptom(s) and go to Diagnosis By Symptom. Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures
