Windshield Wiper System
The windshield wiper system consists of:^ Windshield wiper motor.
^ Windshield washer system.
^ Central timer module, located in the fuse junction panel.
^ Windshield wiper/washer switch.
^ Windshield wiper relay.
^ Windshield wiper linkage.
^ RH windshield wiper pivot arm.
^ LH windshield wiper pivot arm.
^ Two windshield wiper blades.
The windshield wiper motor is:
^ Attached to the windshield wiper linkage.
^ Connected to the windshield wiper linkage at the wiper motor crankshaft.
The windshield wiper/washer switch features:
^ Rotary intermittent wipe setting.
^ Six intermittent settings.
^ Pull-type washer actuator.
^ Single swipe wiper operation.
^ Four position settings.
Off/Low/High Speed
The Off/Low/High speed windshield wiper operation is achieved as follows:
^ System has a two-speed windshield wiper motor.
^ When the windshield wipers are operating and the windshield wiper/washer switch is moved to the OFF position, the windshield wiper motor will continue at LOW speed until the park switch outer contacts open.
^ When the park switch contacts open, the windshield wiper motor stops in the park position.
When the windshield wiper/washer switch is in the LOW position:
^ Power is supplied through circuit protection in the instrument panel fuse junction panel to the windshield wiper/washer switch.
^ Power is provided through the windshield wiper/washer switch to the windshield wiper relay.
^ Power is provided from the windshield wiper relay to the LOW speed side of the windshield wiper motor.
When the windshield wiper/washer switch is in the HIGH position:
^ Power is provided through circuit protection in the instrument panel fuse junction panel to the windshield wiper/washer switch.
^ Power is provided to the HIGH speed side of the windshield wiper motor from the windshield wiper/washer switch.
^ Ground for the windshield wiper system is provided through Circuit 31 (BK) for park position and through the windshield wiper motor housing for operation.
Interval
When the windshield wiper/washer switch is in the interval position:
^ The windshield wipers make single wipes separated by a pause.
^ Power is provided through Circuit protection in the instrument panel fuse junction panel to the windshield wiper/washer switch.
^ Power is provided to the LOW speed side of the windshield wiper motor from the windshield wiper relay.
^ Length of the pause between wipes is controlled by the rotary switch control located on the windshield wiper switch handle.
Single Wipe
A single wipe of the windshield wipers can be achieved by:
^ moving the windshield wiper switch handle downward and releasing.
^ releasing the windshield wiper switch handle will let it return to the OFF position.
Additional wipes can be achieved by holding the windshield wiper switch handle down.
