Air Conditioning (A/C) Clutch
NOTE: This applies to OEM, factory installed air conditioning.DESCRIPTION
The A/C cycling switch is located on the suction accumulator/drier of a factory-installed air conditioning system. When the A/C cycling switch contacts close, the powertrain control module receives a signal voltage from the A/C cycling switch indicating that the A/C clutch is engaged. The PCM uses the A/C cycling switch signal to adjust line pressure and compensate for the additional engine load.
SYMPTOMS
- If the A/C cycling switch fails with closed contacts, line pressure will be slightly low with air conditioning OFF.
- If the A/C cycling switch fails with open contacts, line pressure will be slightly high with air conditioning ON.
