Reverse Idler Gear: Description and Operation
Reverse idler gear is driven by the input shaft reverse gear (drive) and drives the output shaft reverse gear (driven). Reverse idler gear is mounted on a shaft pressed in from outside of the transaxle housing and runs on needle roller bearings. Reverse idler gear is positioned on reverse idler shaft by two thrust washers. The reverse idler gear and thrust washers are retained by a bracket secured by two bolts from outside of the case.
