Disassembly
DESCRIPTIONThe 5th gear (driving) is pressed onto input shaft and retained with a snap ring. The 3rd gear and 4th gear (driving) are mounted on input shaft with 3rd/4th synchronizer assembly mounted between them. The 1st gear, 2nd gear and reverse gear (driving) are an integral part of the input shaft. The 3rd gear and 4th gear (driving) run on needle roller bearings mounted in a fiber collar. Tapered roller bearings are pressed onto both ends of the input shaft. Input shaft tapered roller bearing races are pressed into each case half. The clutch end bearing race is shimmed to provide preload for the input shaft.
PROCEDURE
1. Using Bearing Pulling Attachment D84L-1123-A or equivalent, remove tapered roller bearing from input shaft.
2. Remove snap ring from input shaft. Use a hydraulic press to remove 5th gear from input shaft.
3. Remove 4th gear, needle bearing and synchronizer ring from the input shaft.
4. Remove snap ring and 3rd/4th gear synchronizer assembly from input shaft.
3-4 Synchronizer Orientation:
5. Remove synchronizer ring, 3rd gear and needle bearing assembly from input shaft.
6. Remove tapered roller bearing from input shaft using Bearing Pulling Attachment D84L-1123-A or equivalent.
