Synchronizer Ring: Service and Repair

Synchronizer Components:

DISASSEMBLY
Remove the outer ring from synchronizer. Disassemble the detent balls, blocker bars and compression springs from the synchronizer hub.

CAUTION: Use care when disassembling the synchronizer assembly. The detent balls are spring-loaded and may be ejected from the assembly.

ASSEMBLY
1. Insert the compression springs into the pockets of the inner synchronizer hub. Use petroleum jelly to hold in place.
2. Insert the detent balls into the synchronizer hub insert and assemble against the springs. Use a rubber band to hold the pieces in place.
3. Slide the outer synchronizer shift ring onto the hub assembly, aligning the three ball detents in the shift ring with the detent balls. As the synchronizer shift ring slides down into place retaining the detent balls, remove the rubber band.
