Flywheel Gear: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. Remove flywheel.
2. Support flywheel on a flat, stable stand that will allow flywheel ring gear to separate from flywheel.
3. Expand flywheel ring gear by evenly heating it with an acetylene torch.
WARNING: WEAR WELDING GLOVES AND SAFETY GOGGLES TO PREVENT PERSONAL INJURY.
4. Use a brass drift and hammer to drive the flywheel ring gear off flywheel. Tap flywheel ring gear in alternate locations around flywheel to prevent binding.
INSTALLATION
1. Support flywheel on a flat, non-flammable surface that will allow flywheel ring gear to be driven onto flywheel.
2. Slowly expand flywheel ring gear by heating it evenly with an acetylene torch.
WARNING: WEAR WELDING GLOVES AND SAFETY GOGGLES TO PREVENT INJURY.
3. Use a brass drift and hammer to drive flywheel ring gear onto flywheel. Tap the flywheel ring gear onto flywheel evenly to prevent binding until it is flush with flywheel.
