External Controls/Shift Interlock



1. Verify the customer's concern by performing the Operational Test to duplicate the condition. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview
2. Inspect to determine if one of the following mechanical or electrical concerns apply:

Mechanical
- Shift control linkage binding.
- Damaged ignition switch key cylinder.
- Damaged shift cable.

Electrical
- Circuitry open/shorted.
- Blown fuse backup lamps (15A), stop lamps (15A), electronics (7.5A), illumination (7.5A).
- Damaged brake on/off switch.
- Damaged gearshift lever.
- Damaged key removal inhibit solenoid.
- Damaged powertrain control module.
- Damaged instrument interface module.

3. If inspection reveals obvious concern(s) that can be readily identified, service as required.
4. If the concern(s) remain after the inspection, determine the symptom(s) and go to Diagnosis by Symptom. External Controls/Shift Interlock
