Clutch Switch: Description and Operation
DESCRIPTIONVehicles equipped with a manual transaxle are equipped with a Clutch Pedal Position switch (CPP), located on the clutch pedal support bracket.
OPERATION
Clutch pedal position switch operates as follows.
- In order for the engine starter motor to operate, the clutch pedal must be pressed all the way to the floor.
- The switch plunger is contacted by the clutch pedal and extends as the clutch pedal is pressed.
- The clutch pedal position switch is electrically connected across the ignition switch and starter motor relay coil.
- Clutch pedal position switch maintains an open starter circuit when the clutch pedal is in the released (up) position.
The clutch pedal position switch also:
- turns OFF the speed control when the clutch pedal is pressed.
- provides a fuel control signal to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
