Crankshaft Position Sensor: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.

NOTE: When battery voltage is removed from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM), all learned values will be cleared and reset to predetermined values. When battery voltage is restored to the PCM, the vehicle may exhibit certain driveability concerns. It will be necessary to drive the vehicle to allow the PCM to relearn values for optimum driveablilty and performance.

2. Raise the vehicle on a hoist.
3. Disconnect the engine control sensor wiring from the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor.
4. Remove CKP sensor retaining bolt and remove the CKP sensor.

INSTALLATION
1. Make sure CKP sensor mounting surface is clean. If equipped, make sure that the CKP sensor O-ring is in proper location on CKP sensor.

CAUTION: Do not overtighten CKP sensor retaining bolt or damage to the CKP sensor may occur.

2. Position CKP sensor and install retaining bolt. Tighten retaining bolt to 6-9 Nm (53-80 lb-in).
3. Properly route engine control sensor wiring and connect electrical connector to CKP sensor.
4. Lower vehicle.
5. Connect battery ground cable.
