Camshaft Position Sensor: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.

NOTE: When battery voltage is removed from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM), all learned values will be cleared and reset to predetermined values. When battery voltage is restored to the PCM, the vehicle may exhibit certain driveability concerns. It will be necessary to drive the vehicle to allow the PCM to relearn values for optimum driveablilty and performance.

2. Remove engine intake air resonators.
3. Disconnect fuel charging wiring from Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor.
4. Remove CMP sensor retaining screw and remove CMP sensor from engine.

INSTALLATION
1. Make sure CMP sensor mounting surface is clean and that CMP sensor O-ring is in proper location on CMP sensor.

CAUTION: Do not overtighten camshaft position sensor retaining bolt or damage to CMP sensor or engine mounting surface may occur.

2. Position CMP sensor onto engine and install retaining bolt. Tighten retaining bolt to 18-23 N.m (13-17 lb-ft).
3. Connect fuel charging wiring to CMP sensor.
4. Install engine intake air resonators.
5. Connect battery ground cable.
