Air Flow Meter/Sensor: Service and Repair

Mass Air Flow Sensor:

REMOVAL
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.

NOTE: When battery voltage is removed from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM), all learned values will be cleared and reset to predetermined values. When battery voltage is restored to the PCM, the vehicle may exhibit certain driveability concerns. It will be necessary to drive the vehicle to allow the PCM to relearn values for optimum driveablilty and performance.

2. Remove Air Cleaner (ACL) outlet tube.
3. Remove engine intake air resonator attached to the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor.
4. Disconnect engine control sensor wiring connector from MAF sensor.
5. Remove retaining bolts or release retaining clips from ACL cover.
6. Carefully remove MAF sensor. Inspect O-ring for wear or damage and replace as required.

INSTALLATION
1. Position MAF sensor with new gasket or O-ring onto cover.
2. Secure retaining clips.
3. Install ACL outlet tube and engine intake air resonator. Tighten engine air cleaner tube clamps to 3-5 N.m (27-44 lb in).
4. Connect engine control sensor wiring connector to MAF sensor.
5. Connect battery ground cable.
6. Start engine and check for vacuum leaks.
