Removal and Installation












REMOVAL
1. Raise the vehicle on a hoist.
2. Remove retaining nuts from outlet flange on Three Way Catalytic (TWC) converter and remove the muffler and exhaust converter outlet gasket from the TWC converter.
3. Remove EGR valve to exhaust manifold tube, retaining bracket and clamp from TWC converter. Lower vehicle and remove heat shield and TWC converter retaining nuts from exhaust manifold.
4. Remove TWC converter and exhaust converter inlet gasket from Y pipe or exhaust manifold (depending upon application).
5. Discard exhaust converter inlet gasket.

INSTALLATION
1. Loosely install TWC converter to Y pipe or exhaust manifold, using a new exhaust converter inlet gasket.
2. Position muffler and exhaust converter outlet gasket onto TWC converter and loosely install retainers onto outlet flange studs of TWC converter.
3. Observe exhaust system adjustments and align exhaust system as described. Make sure muffler and TWC converter are fully engaged. Tighten all nuts and bolts, starting at front of system, to specification.
4. Tighten the TWC converter retaining nuts with exhaust pipe flange hold down springs to 30-40 N.m (22-30 lb ft). Tighten muffler inlet flange nuts to 34-46 N.m (26-33 lb ft).
5. Tighten the TWC converter retaining nuts to the exhaust manifold and muffler to 34-46 N.m (26-33 lb ft). Tighten retaining bracket bolts to 8-12 N.m (71-106 lb in). Tighten clamp bolt to
20-30 N.m (15-22 lb ft). Tighten exhaust manifold heat shield retainers to 8-12 N.m (71-106 lb in). Install EGR valve to exhaust manifold tube to the TWC converter.
6. Check system for leaks and lower vehicle.
