Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview

1. Verify the customer's concern by following these steps:
^ Turn ignition switch OFF.
^ Turn headlamp switch to HEAD.
^ Check low beam headlamp operation.
^ Turn high beam headlamp ON with dimmer switch.
^ Check high beam operation.
^ Check high beam indicator located in instrument cluster for proper operation.
^ Turn high beam headlamps OFF.
^ Turn low beam headlamps OFF.
2. If headlamp concerns are found when doing above steps.
^ Check daytime running lamps system operation:
(1) Turn ignition switch to RUN.
(2) Check for high beam headlamps ON at reduced intensity.
3. Inspect to determine if one of the following mechanical or electrical concerns apply:

Mechanical
^ Damaged lamps.

Electrical
^ Open instrument panel Fuse Backup Lamps (15A).
^ Damaged connectors.
^ Circuitry open/shorted.
^ Damaged ignition switch.
^ Damaged DRL module.
^ Damaged headlamp switch switch.
^ Damaged multi-function switch.

4. If inspection reveals obvious concern(s) which can be readily identified, service as required.
5. If the concern(s) remains after the inspection, determine the symptom(s) and GO to the Symptom Chart. Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures
