Courtesy Lamp: Description and Operation

DOOR COURTESY LAMPS
The door courtesy lamp system consists of:
^ Door courtesy interior lamps.
^ Lamp switches.
^ Courtesy lamp relay.
^ Central timer module.
^ Circuit wiring.
^ Circuit protection.

Power is provided to the door lamp switches through the courtesy lamp relay and circuit protection located in the instrument panel fuse junction panel.

With a door open, courtesy lamp switch contacts are closed, providing a ground signal to the central timer module. The central timer module provides a ground for the courtesy lamp relay, which provides a ground circuit for the door courtesy interior lamps.

Ground is provided through Circuit 31 (BK).

PANEL MOUNTED COURTESY LAMPS
The panel mounted courtesy lamps are located under the instrument panel on the driver and passenger side.

The panel mounted courtesy interior lamp is illuminated when a door is opened and is also a part of the illuminated entry system.

LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT LAMP
The luggage compartment lamp system consists of:
^ Luggage compartment interior lamp with a replaceable miniature bulb.
^ Luggage compartment lamp switch.
^ Circuit wiring.
^ Circuit protection.

Power is provided to the luggage compartment interior lamp through circuit protection located in the instrument panel fuse junction panel.

Opening the luggage compartment door closes the luggage compartment lamp switch which provides a ground for the luggage compartment interior lamps.

Ground is provided through Circuit 31 (BK).

ENGINE COMPARTMENT LAMP
The engine compartment lamp system consists of:
^ Engine compartment lamp with a replaceable miniature bulb.
^ Engine compartment lamp switch (located at the RH radiator support).
^ Circuit wiring.
^ Circuit protection.

Power is provided to the compartment lamp through circuit protection in the fuse junction panel.

With the hood open, the engine compartment lamp switch closes and provides a ground for the compartment lamp.

Ground is provided through Circuit 31 (BK).

VANITY MIRRORS LAMPS
The vanity mirror lamp system consists of:
^ Two lamp assemblies on either side of a mirror on each inside visor (with replaceable miniature bulbs).
^ Vanity mirror lamp switch.
^ Circuit wiring.
^ Circuit protection.

Power is provided to the vanity mirror lamps through circuit protection in the instrument panel fuse junction panel.

With the vanity mirror lamp switch closed, power is provided to each miniature bulb in the vanity mirror lamp.

Ground is provided through Circuit 31 (BK).

ILLUMINATED ENTRY
The illuminated entry system consists of:
^ Panel mounted interior lamp.
^ Door courtesy interior lamps.
^ Door lock cylinder illumination LEDs.
^ Interior lamp switch.
^ Central timer module.
^ Electronic door lock control processor (vehicles equipped with electronic door lock control).
^ Circuit wiring.
^ Circuit protection.

The illuminated entry system is activated when either front door handle is lifted.

Lifting the front door handle closes the door interior lamp switch, providing a ground signal to the central timer module which provides a ground signal for the courtesy lamp relay and provides a ground for the door courtesy interior lamps, instrument panel courtesy interior lamps, and door lock cylinder illumination.

Ground is provided through Circuit 31 (BK). The interior lamps will stay illuminated for approximately 12 seconds or until the ignition switch is turned to the RUN or ACC position.

The system is activated every time the outside door handles are operated whether the front doors are locked or unlocked.

If the vehicle is equipped with electronic door lock control system, the system operates the same except that it can be activated by using the keyless entry remote transmitter.

TIMER MODULE
Central timer module controlled functions are:
^ Warning chime (safety belt, key in ignition, headlamps on, door ajar).
^ Warning indicators (safety belts, door ajar).
^ Windshield wiper/washer.
^ Interior lamp control.
^ Illuminated entry.
^ Heated back window (and heated outside rear view mirrors, if equipped).
