Warning Indicators
BRAKE SYSTEMThe brake system warning indicator has two functions:
- It can display that the parking brake is not fully released.
- It can display that the brake fluid level is low in the brake master cylinder.
The park brake warning indicator is controlled by a parking brake signal switch and bracket on the parking brake control.
The low brake fluid warning indicator is controlled by a switch integral to the brake master cylinder reservoir cap on the brake master cylinder reservoir.
ANTI-LOCK BRAKES
The ABS warning indicator will stay on after initial start-up if the anti-lock brake system is disabled. The warning lamp is controlled by the anti-lock brake control module.
CHECK ENGINE (MIL)
This warning indicator will stay on after initial start-up if the electronic engine control system is not working properly. The warning lamp is controlled by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
CHARGING SYSTEM
This warning indicator light will stay on after initial start-up if the battery is not being charged. The warning lamp is controlled by the generator voltage regulator.
LOW OIL PRESSURE
This warning indicator light will stay on after initial start-up if the oil pressure is within specification. The warning lamp is controlled by the oil pressure sensor.
LOW COOLANT
The Engine Coolant Level (ECL) indicator will stay on after initial start-up if the engine coolant level is below a point 3 mm ABOVE the MIN mark on the radiator coolant recovery reservoir. The warning lamp is controlled by the engine coolant level warning sensor and instrument interface module. The lamp will also illuminate during driving if the engine coolant level falls below the MIN mark for more than two minutes.
AIR BAG
The air bag indicator lamp is a readiness light to indicate the condition of the system. If the system is functioning properly, the light will stay on for six seconds after the ignition switch is turned to the RUN position. If there is a concern with the system, two things may happen: the light will either flash or remain lit. When the light is on in either condition, a chime tone controlled by the air bag diagnostic monitor will be audible. The indicator lamp is controlled by the air bag diagnostic monitor.
SAFETY BELT
This warning indicator will stay on after initial start-up for four to eight seconds. Also, the light will stay on or come on if the driver's safety belt is not fastened. The warning lamp is controlled by the central timer module and the safety belt warning indicator switch.
HIGH BEAM
This indicator lamp comes on when the headlamps are turned on and the dimmer switch is in the high beam position. The indicator lamp is controlled by both the headlamp switch and dimmer switch.
LH/RH TURN
The left or right turn indicators light when the turn signal switch is positioned in either the right or left turn position. They will also flash simultaneously when the turn signal switch has the hazard switch turned on.
OVERDRIVE OFF
The OD OFF indicator lights when actuation of the transmission control switch sends a signal to the instrument interface module. The instrument interface module controls the OD OFF indicator, and signals the powertrain control module of the driver's selection. The instrument interface module also dims the lamp for night driving.
