Instrument Cluster and Panel Lighting
The instrument cluster and panel lighting is powered through the headlamp switch and instrument panel lamp dimmer control. The instrument cluster and panel lighting provides illumination to:
- Climate control.
- Electric clock.
- Heated back window switch and light.
- Instrument cluster.
- Transmission range indicator.
- Headlamp switch.
- Ash receptacle.
- Radio chassis.
Intensity of illumination is controlled by rotating the instrument panel lamp dimmer control.
The instrument cluster printed circuit, which supplies current to the instrument cluster lamps and gauges, is made of copper foil which is bonded to a polyester base film (usually referred to as Mylar (R)).
The instrument cluster printed circuit is mounted to the instrument cluster. Due to its location, it cannot be easily inspected and/or tested in the vehicle. This makes the instrument cluster printed circuit vulnerable to damage when a probe is used for in-vehicle testing, as the probe can pierce the instrument cluster printed circuit or in some cases, burn the copper conductor.
