Oil Pressure Warning Lamp/Indicator: Description and Operation

The oil pressure indication system consists of:
- an oil pressure sensor on the engine.
- an engine oil pressure warning indicator in the instrument cluster

Low Oil Pressure Warning
The red low oil pressure warning indicator:
- Lights when the oil pressure is below a prescribed value.
- Should come on when the ignition switch is first turned to RUN position.
- Should go out within a few seconds after the engine starts, indicating the oil pressure is acceptable.

Oil Pressure Sensor
The oil pressure sensor is installed into the engine oil filter adapter. The oil pressure is calibrated to close between 26-44 kPa (3.8-6.4 psi).

The engine oil pressure sensor is threaded into the cylinder block. The oil pressure sensor reacts to the pressure of the engine oil in the lube passage. It is normally closed with engine oil pressure and opens with low oil pressure.
