F - Pedal Is Low or Feels Spongy
F1- Spongy Pedal- Road test the vehicle and apply brake pedal.
- Was the brake pedal effort normal ?
YES - Vehicle OK. Perform Brake Pedal Reserve Check.
NO - Go to F2.
F2- Brake Fluid Level Check
- Check brake master cylinder reservoir fluid level.
- Is the fluid level acceptable ?
YES - Go to F3.
NO - Check brake master cylinder reservoir sealing points, add fluid and bleed the system then repeat F1. Refer to Master Cylinder - Leakage Tests. Testing and Inspection
F3- Filler Cap Vent Check
- Check if filler cap vent holes are clogged or dirty.
- Was a concern found ?
YES - Clean or replace as necessary. Repeat F1.
NO - Go to F4.
F4- Bleed Brake System
- Bleed the brake system.
- Is condition still present ?
YES - Go to F5.
NO - Vehicle OK.
F5- Front Hub Nut Check
- Check front axle wheel hub retainer nuts for looseness. Refer to Transmission and Drivetrain.
- Was a front axle wheel hub retainer nut loose?
YES - Replace with a new front axle wheel hub retainer. Do NOT reuse the front axle wheel hub retainer.
NO - Check rear brake adjustment and adjust if necessary.
