Parking Brake Control: Testing and Inspection
OPERATIONAL TEST^ Verify that parking brake control stroke is five to seven notches when pulled with a force of 98 N (22 lb).
^ Apply the parking brake control a few times and verify that the rear brakes do not drag when the wheels rotate.
^ The brake warning lamp should come "ON" when parking brake is applied, and go "OFF" when it is released.
MECHANICAL CHECKS
^ Operate the parking brake control and check for conditions that may cause binding, groaning or an incomplete release of the parking brake.
ELECTRICAL CHECKS - The parking brake warning indicator:
^ Turned "ON" by actuating the parking brake control.
^ warns the driver to release the parking brake control before driving the vehicle.
^ remains lit when a brake hydraulic malfunction has occurred.
^ will remain lit when a parking brake malfunction has occurred.
^ If there are no hydraulic brake failures, and no park brake failures, diagnose the parking brake warning circuit. Refer to Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators.
