Parking Brake - Sticking/Binding/Does Not Release

For Kansas City assembly plant vehicles built through 1/20/97 and Cuautitlan assembly plant vehicles built through 2/28/97.

ISSUE:
The parking brake on vehicles equipped with rear disc brakes may stick and/or bind when attempting to release and/or may not release at all on some vehicles. This may be due to water entering the cable and freezing.

ACTION:
Replace the parking brake cables and release springs. The revised cables have an integral seal to reduce the possibility of water entering the cable. Refer to the Instruction Sheet included in the kit for service details.

SERVICE PROCEDURE








Install the Parking Brake Cable Service Kit following the Instruction Sheet included in the Kit. Refer to Figures 1 and 2.

The Parking Brake Cable Kit (F6RZ-2A635-AA) includes the following:

^ One (1) Right Rear Caliper Return Spring

^ One (1) Left Rear Caliper Return Spring

^ Two (2) Parking Brake Cables

^ One (1) Instruction Sheet (l.S. 7203)
