Backing Plate: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Remove rear brake shoes and linings as described. Service and Repair

CAUTION: Do not use impact wrench on rear axle wheel hub retainer or damage to wheel spindle will result.

3. Remove rear axle wheel hub retainer and hub.
4. Remove rear wheel cylinder as described. Service and Repair
5. Compress locking tangs and remove parking brake rear cable and conduit from rear brake backing plate.
6. Remove four backing plate bolts and rear brake backing plate.

INSTALLATION
1. Position rear brake backing plate on rear wheel spindle. Install four backing plate bolts. Tighten to 43-57 Nm (32-42 ft. lbs.).
2. Install rear wheel cylinder as described.
3. Push parking brake rear cable and conduit through hole in rear brake backing plate until locking tangs are firmly engaged.
4. Install rear hub on wheel spindle.

CAUTION: Do not use impact wrench on rear axle wheel hub retainer or damage to wheel spindle will result.

5. Install rear axle wheel hub retainer. Tighten rear axle wheel hub retainer to 230-260 Nm (170-192 ft. lbs.).
6. Install rear brake shoes and linings as described.
7. Bleed brake system.
