Level Control Solenoid Valve: Service and Repair

Air Spring:

REMOVAL

NOTE: The air spring solenoid valve has a two-stage solenoid valve pressure relief fitting similar to a radiator cap.

1. Turn air suspension switch OFF.
2. Raise vehicle on a hoist. Suspension must be at full rebound.
3. Remove heat shield if equipped.

4. Disconnect solenoid valve electrical connector and then disconnect air line.
5. Remove air spring solenoid retainer.
6. Rotate solenoid valve counterclockwise to first stop and allow air to release from the assembly.
7. Pull solenoid valve straight out slowly to second stop to bleed air from system.

WARNING: DO NOT FULLY RELEASE SOLENOID VALVE UNTIL AIR IS COMPLETELY BLED FROM THE REAR SPRING TO PREVENT INJURY.

8. After air is fully bled from system, rotate solenoid valve counterclockwise to third stop and remove solenoid valve from solenoid valve housing.

9. Remove large solenoid of-ring from solenoid housing.

INSTALLATION
1. Check solenoid wrings for abrasion or cuts. Replace solenoid wrings as required. Lightly grease O-ring area of solenoid and larger solenoid housing solenoid of-ring with Silicone Brake Caliper Grease and Dielectric Compound D7AZ-19A331-A or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESE-M1C171-A.
2. Insert solenoid valve into air spring end cap and rotate clockwise to third stop, push into second stop, then rotate clockwise to first stop.
3. Install air spring solenoid retainer.
4. Inspect wire harness connector and make sure rubber gasket is in place at bottom of connector cavity.
5. Connect air line and electrical connector.
6. Install heat shield.
7. Lower hoist as required, but do not apply a load to the suspension.
8. Refill air spring(s). Follow proper procedure. Service and Repair
