Failure Effects Mode Management (Fail Safe Operation)

OPERATION
During some electronic ignition system faults, the failure mode effects management portion of the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) will maintain vehicle operation:

- If the spark output signal is interrupted, the PCM will automatically turn the ignition coils ON and OFF using the Crankshaft Position (CKP) signal input. This will result in fixed-spark timing (10 degrees BTDC) and fixed dwell time (no Computer Controlled Dwell [CCD]).

- If the PCM loses Camshaft Position (CMP) input while the engine is running, the PCM will retain the proper firing sequence and it will continue to fire the ignition coils to maintain engine operation.
