REMOVAL
1. Disconnect battery ground cable (14301).
2. Disconnect positive battery cable at battery (10653) and at power distribution box.
3. Remove retaining bolt from positive battery cable bracket located on the side of RH cylinder head (6049). Position positive cable bracket out of the way.
CAUTION: Do not pull on the ignition wires as they may separate from the connector in the ignition wire boots.
4. Disconnect ignition wires from spark plugs (12405). Refer to Powertrain Management.
5. Remove ignition wire set and retainers from valve cover studs and move ignition wires out of the way.
6. Disconnect fuel charging wiring (9D930) from crankshaft position sensor (CKP)(6C315), A/C clutch (2884) ignition coil (12029) and radio ignition interference capacitor (18801). Position harness out of the way.
7. Disconnect vent hose from evaporative emission canister purge valve (EVAP canister purge valve)(9C915) and position positive bakery cable out of the way.
8. Remove positive crankcase ventilation valve (PCV valve)(6A666) from crankcase ventilation grommet (6A892) and move out of the way.
9. Remove bolts and stud bolts retaining valve cover (6582) to cylinder head. Remove valve cover.
INSTALLATION
NOTE: Valve cover must be installed and tightened to specification within five minutes of applying sealer.
1. Clean sealing surfaces of cylinder head, valve cover and engine front cover (6019) with Metal Surface Cleaner F4AZ-19A536-RA or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSE-M5B392-A. Apply Silicone Gasket and Sealant F6AZ-19562-AA or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSE-M4G323-A6 in both places where engine front cover meets cylinder head.
2. Position, and using Gasket and Trim Adhesive F3AZ-19B508-B or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESR-M11P17-A and ESE-M2G52-A, glue new valve cover gasket (6584) into valve cover and install onto cylinder head.
3. Install bolts and stud bolts into valve cover. Tighten studs and bolts to 8-12 Nm (71-106 inch lbs.).
4. Install positive crankcase ventilation valve into crankcase ventilation grommet.
5. Connect vent hose to evaporative emission canister purge valve and position vent hose on valve cover studs.
6. Connect fuel charging wiring to valve cover studs, A/C clutch ignition coil, radio ignition interference capacitor and crankshaft position sensor.
7. Install ignition wire retainers on studs and connect ignition wires to spark plugs. Refer to Powertrain Management.
8. Position positive battery cable harness on RH cylinder head.
9. Install bolt retaining battery cable bracket to cylinder head.
10. Connect positive battery cable at power distribution box and harness (14516) and battery.
11. Connect battery ground cable.
12. Start engine and check for leaks.
