REMOVAL
1. Remove air cleaner outlet tube (9B659).
2. Disconnect battery ground cable.
3. Relieve fuel system pressure and disconnect fuel lines. Refer to Powertrain Management.
4. Raise and support vehicle.
5. Remove oil bypass filter (6714).
6. Disconnect fuel charging wiring from power steering pump (3A674) and oil pressure sensor (9278).
7. Remove fuel charging wiring from oil filter adapter bracket.
8. Lower vehicle.

CAUTION: Do not pull on the ignition wires as it may separate from the connector in the ignition wire boot.

9. Disconnect ignition wires from spark plugs. Refer to Powertrain Management.
10. Remove ignition wire set and retainers from studs and move ignition wires out of the way.
11. Disconnect fuel charging wiring from camshaft position sensor (CMP)(6B288), ignition coil, radio ignition interference capacitor and valve cover studs.
12. Remove windshield wiper governor (17C476).





13. Disconnect 42-pin connector and transmission harness connector from fuel charging wiring at power brake booster (2005) and position fuel charging wiring out of way.
14. Remove bolts and stud bolts retaining valve cover to cylinder head. Remove valve cover.

INSTALLATION

NOTE: Valve cover must be installed and tightened to specification within five minutes of applying sealer.

1. Clean sealing surfaces of cylinder head, engine front cover and valve cover with metal surface cleaner F4AZ-19A536-RA or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSE-M5B392-A in both places where engine front cover meets cylinder head.
2. Position and, using Gasket and Trim Adhesive F3AZ-19B508-B or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESR-M11P17-A and ESE-M2G52-A, glue new valve cover gasket onto valve cover. Install valve cover onto cylinder head.
3. Install bolts and studs bolts into valve cover. Tighten studs and bolts to 8-12 Nm (71-106 inch lbs.).
4. Connect fuel charging wiring at 42-pin connector and eight-pin transmission harness connector.
5. Install windshield wiper governor.
6. Connect fuel charging wiring to camshaft position sensor, ignition coil and radio ignition interference capacitor. Position fuel charging wiring on valve cover studs.
7. Install ignition wire retainers on studs and connect ignition wires to spark plugs. Refer to Powertrain Management.
8. Raise vehicle.
9. Position and connect fuel charging wiring to power steering pump and oil pressure sensor. Secure fuel charging wiring to oil filter adapter bracket.
10. Install oil bypass filter.
11. Lower vehicle.
12. Connect fuel lines. Refer to Powertrain Management.
13. Connect battery ground cable.
14. Check oil level. Start engine and check for leaks.
